In essence, it’s an updated version of the first generation Roborock Q Revo. While the Roborock Qrevo Master comes with the latest innovation in cleaning technology, the Qrevo S makes a few concessions to keep the price low.

Same old design

The Qrevo S closely resembles the other Qrevo models, with a circular robot and a vertical and fully autonomous dock. The latter includes two large water tanks accessible from the top, with the clean water tank holding 4 liters and the dirty water tank accommodating up to 3.5 liters. Additionally, there’s a 2.7-liter dust bag, located behind a removable panel at the front of the station. The overall design is simple and available only in white, which may not seamlessly blend into every interior but remains relatively unobtrusive. The dock is also fairly compact and slim, with dimensions of 340 x 487 x 521 mm.

The robot itself is standard in its circular shape, measuring 350 x 353 x 96.5 mm. It utilizes both LiDAR technology for navigation and Reactive Tech for obstacle detection. It includes two rotating mop pads for wet cleaning. For vacuuming, it employs a single bristleless roller brush, seconded by a side brush.

Regarding build quality, the Qrevo S feels less sturdy and durable compared to the brand’s flagship model, the S8 MaxV Ultra. While it’s not necessarily poor in quality, the plastics used aren’t as robust as those found in higher-end models. This is particularly noticeable in the dock’s panels and water tanks, as well as in the robot itself, which has a slightly loose bumper.

Intuitive and complete app

During setup, the robot generates a map of your home. After the map is ready, you can edit room boundaries, set up virtual and no-go zones, and adjust the floor type. You can also place furniture on the map, customize the cleaning order for each room, and tailor cleaning options individually.

The Qrevo S can manage up to four maps, making it useful for homes with multiple floors or for use in a secondary residence. It automatically identifies and selects the correct map without requiring your input.

You can control the suction power and water flow or let the Qrevo S adjust them intelligently with the SmartPlan feature.

The app offers customization options, including the ability to create a personalized cleaning schedule. You can choose between full cleaning or targeting specific rooms. Advanced settings, such as pad cleaning frequency, drying time, and emptying parameters, are also adjustable. Additionally, you can specify off-peak hours for charging to save on energy costs.

The Qrevo S uses Reactive Tech infrared to recognize obstacles and detect carpets. While it identifies obstacles on the map, it doesn’t specify their type. When it detects a carpet, you can preset its response, such as lifting the mops, avoiding the carpet, or deep vacuuming it.

The Roborock Qrevo S works with Google Assistant and Alexa for voice control, but it doesn’t have a built-in voice assistant like the Qrevo MaxV.

Good vacuuming performance

The Qrevo S boasts powerful 7,000 Pa suction, making it ideal for vacuuming both hard floors and thin carpets. It effectively removes dirt, dust, and small particles, leaving floors remarkably clean. The side brush sweeps along baseboards, ensuring comprehensive coverage.

On carpets, the robot automatically boosts its suction power for a thorough clean. This helps it reach deeper into the fibers to ensure that trapped dirt is removed. However, for thick carpets, a double roller brush and a higher suction power are even more effective.

Also, since the Qrevo S comes without a robotic side brush, it’s not as good as the Qrevo Master, Dreame X40 and Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra to clean corners and alongside baseboards. If you have thick carpets, the Qrevo Master is probably a better option. For hard floors, the Qrevo S is a perfect choice.

Brilliant mopping results

The Qrevo S does a good job when it comes to mopping. The dock washes the pads before, during, and after each cycle. Unlike some cheaper models, the robot has a small water tank that constantly moistens the pads, preventing them from drying out during cleaning. You can customize the water flow with three preset modes or choose from 30 different levels using a gauge. After each cycle, the mops are automatically cleaned and dried to prevent odors and bacteria.

The cleaning results are generally good, especially on less stubborn stains. It’s best to add bit of detergent, for better results. Most stains disappear after one pass, but some dry stains, like coffee, requires an extra pass. Unlike the Qrevo Master, the Qrevo S can’t automatically recognize dirty areas and trigger a second pass. This means you’ll need to manually initiate a second pass or set the cleaning to run two passes before starting.

Also, the two rotating pads are less effective than the VibraRise module in the S series, which offers better scrubbing. Moreoever, unlike the Qrevo Pro and Qrevo MaxV, the Qrevo S doesn’t come with hop water mop washing, which offers better cleaning results overall, together with improved hygiene.

Excellent navigation and good obstacle avoidance

The Qrevo S navigates exceptionally well, using both LiDAR and infrared sensors. These sensors allow it to move smoothly from room to room and track its location on the map in real time.

The Reactive Tech obstacle avoidance system performs efficiently. It enables the robot to detect and maneuver around visible obstacles like shoes and toys. However, it struggles with smaller objects like cables, sometimes attempting to vacuum them if left on the floor. For best performance, it’s advisable to clear such items beforehand.

While the Qrevo S handles most obstacles effectively, the Qrevo Master and MaxV do better. They’re equipped with RGB cameras, which provides better detection of wires and other small objects.

Quiet and long-lasting

The robot offers five suction modes. The Silent and Normal modes are very quiet, even quieter than those in the S series. These are ideal for daily floor vacuuming, even when you’re around. You can work, watch TV, or have a conversation without being disturbed. The more powerful modes are louder but still within an acceptable noise range, making them better suited for use when you’re not home. The automatic emptying and mop cleaning processes are quite noisy and may be disruptive, but they only last a few seconds.

Its 5,200 mAh battery provides up to 150 minutes of runtime on a full cleaning cycle, which is very satisfactory and sufficient to clean an area of approximately 150 m². If the area is larger and the battery runs low, the robot can automatically recharge and resume cleaning on its own.

Easy to maintain

Despite being a mid-range model, the Qrevo S operates fully autonomously as a vacuum-mopping robot. Its large water tanks allow it to clean about 90 m² with high water flow settings. This can be even more with a lower setting, requiring minimal human intervention.

You’ll need to machine wash the mop pads about once a month, as the plastic pins can’t clean them thoroughly. The base also tends to get dirty and needs a quick cleaning about once a month.

Unlike models from Ecovacs and Dreame, Roborock doesn’t offer a base cleaning function in the app. This means you’ll have to remove the detachable part and rinse it in the sink, rather than relying on the robot to clean it.

Maintaining the robot is easy. The roller brush needs cleaning just once a month, and its silicone design prevents hair and fur from tangling, making the process even simpler.

However, the Qrevo S lacks a built-in detergent dispenser, a handy feature found in the S8 MaxV Ultra and most models from Dreame.

Is the Roborock Qrevo S the right robovac for you?

This being said, compare the prices before buying. If you find a discounted first generation Q Revo, there’s not much difference with the Qrevo S, so go for the cheapest one. Similarly, the Qrevo Pro is only $200 more compared to the Qrevo S, so it might be worth checking if one or the other is one sale.
